Hiring conversations
Shortlisted, selected or offered the job? Know what each update means
A positive update is good news. It is also worth knowing exactly what was agreed before you start planning your first day.

Read progress as progress
Shortlisted generally indicates further consideration, while Interviewing indicates an assessment or discussion stage in LaunchHire’s connection workflow. Neither is a guarantee of an offer.
Read the employer’s note and ask what happens next if the update is unclear. Do not infer a schedule or commitment that was not stated.
Treat selected as a decision update
Selected records an employer decision in the conversation. It does not replace a written offer, agreement on compensation or any conditions the employer needs to explain.
Ask for the practical next step and review the actual terms. Avoid resigning from another role or making irreversible plans based only on a status badge.
Before
The chat says Selected, so every employment term must be settled.
Clearer
I acknowledged the update and asked for the written offer and next steps.
Example wording to adapt to your own situation, not a claim or result to copy.
Keep different records distinct
A normal job application and a private hiring connection can exist separately on LaunchHire. Updating the conversation status does not automatically rewrite the application record.
If you used both routes and see different stages, ask the employer which record reflects the next action. That is a coordination question, not proof that one of the decisions is final.
Clarify the offer before accepting
Check the role, compensation, work arrangement, expected start and any conditions. Keep a copy of agreed terms and raise unanswered questions before confirming.
Contracts and local employment requirements can vary. Seek appropriate professional advice for legal questions rather than treating a platform notification as the complete agreement.
