Resume writing

Not in tech? Your resume still deserves specific, convincing evidence

You do not need to have built an app to have done useful work. Keeping customers, deliveries or a chaotic calendar on track counts too.

Name the process you helped run

Describe the work clearly: handling enquiries, scheduling appointments, coordinating stock, preparing records or supporting a sales process. Give the reader a setting and an audience.

Avoid a generic responsibility list that could describe any office. Explain what made the task yours and what level of responsibility you held.

Use scope without inventing impact

A reliable count of customers, locations, documents or recurring tasks can describe scale. If you do not know the number, name the process and its purpose instead.

Do not convert “helped the team” into a revenue claim unless you can support the connection. Useful work remains useful without an impressive percentage.

In practice | Illustrative example

Before

Excellent people person with exceptional organizational abilities.

Clearer

Coordinated appointment changes, kept the shared schedule current and explained revised timings to customers.

Example wording to adapt to your own situation, not a claim or result to copy.

Make people skills observable

Describe how you handled a difficult enquiry, explained a change, coordinated a handover or trained a colleague. These actions show communication and organization in context.

Keep customer identities and sensitive details out of the resume. An example can be specific about your behavior without naming the person involved.

Translate tools into work

Mention relevant software, equipment or procedures alongside the task they supported. A spreadsheet used to maintain supplier records means more than listing “computer literate.”

Check the target role’s requirements and emphasize the closest real examples. There is no need to borrow technical jargon from a different profession.

Keep the useful bits coming.
