The best free resume builder is the one that lets you finish the resume
A beautiful template is not much help if the download button introduces a surprise. Check the whole workflow before you spend an afternoon moving commas.

Check the output before committing
Find out which export formats are available, whether the finished file carries a watermark and what requires payment. A free editor does not necessarily mean a free usable download.
Inspect a sample export if one is available. Look for readable text, sensible page breaks and enough control to fit your actual experience.
Choose control you will actually use
Useful controls include section order, spacing, type size and restrained styling. More features are not automatically better if simple edits become difficult.
Test a long job title, a multiline project description and a second page. Your resume will not always resemble the short sample shown in a template gallery.

Check whether your work is saved
Understand how drafts are stored and whether you can return to edit and download them. Check account requirements and save behavior before closing the browser.
Keep your own final export too. Review the privacy and deletion controls of any service storing professional or contact information.
Choose the tool for the starting point
A builder is useful when you want to create a document from scratch. A checker reviews an existing resume, while an optimizer rewrites content for a target role. These are different jobs.
